Here is a Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in great original condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Model 1860 Army was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 135,000 Colt revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This revolver is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long round barrel. Serial number (40517) is found on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and butt of the backstrap. Serial number dates the manufacture to 1862.

Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics are very strong. Barrel top is stamped, "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA”. Only small portions of the cylinder scene are discernible, while the patent date is plainly visible. The "COLTS / PATENT” and "44 CAL” marks on the left side are also strong. Original nipples are in good condition.US sub inspector marks are visible.

Brass trigger guard shows no traces of silver plating. Brass has a mellow golden patina. The metal is nice and smooth and not messed with.

Grips are original one-piece walnut in good condition no cartouches visible.

This is a classic, Early war time production "Colt Army” revolver and the Colt action is solid and firm.

Layaway terms are; 1/3 down and 1/3 in 30 days with balance due in full in 60 days. Due to time factors there are no refunds or price discounts on layaways.
