Each side strap 24" long and bordered with scalloped black leather with convex gold leather center section. Original rectangular attachment buckles at the top. Black 'tarred' finish on reverse. 3 1/2" heart shaped brass martingale plate with separately affixed spread wing eagle attached to slightly larger black tarred leather backing, with 1" wide leather loop on the reverse, which harness strap attached. The leather has a small split near the martingale, obviously the result of honest use. Still solid. All leather in excellent supple, sound, condition and a superb example of this basic piece of cavalry officer's horse gear. This comes with a custom wood and glass case with latches for display. A very scarce officers' item that is all original.
